The current Oba of Benin Kingdom is popularly known as Ewuare II, being the 40th Oba of Benin, was born on 20th October 1953. He was crowned on 20th October 2016. Prior to this time, he had worked at the United Nations (UN) from somewhere around 1981-1982. He had also served as an Ambassador of Nigeria to Sweden, Angola as well as Italy. Before becoming the Oba of Benin city, he was married to Queen Iroghama (Obazuaye N’erie), Princess Iyayiota (Obazuwa N’erie) as well as Princess Ikpakpa (Ohe N’erie).
The Name “Ewuare II” was chosen by him as a tribute to the Oba Ewuare I that reigned in the 15th century.
