Do you know that Nigeria has about 4-5 refineries in the state? Have you heard of the various list of refineries in the country today? In this article, we want to pull you on the list of refineries in Nigeria today and also give you an insight of where they are located in the country.

Firstly there are two different types of refineries, we have the Petroleum oil refinery, which converts crude oil into diesel oil, kerosene, lubricating oil and so on. We also have the Edible oil, which also converts to cooking oil which we use in preparing our meals then we also have the Natural gas processing plant as another refinery, this one helps purify and convert raw natural gas into residential, commercial and also industrial fuel gas. This also helps recover natural gas liquids. We also have the rest of refineries like the Sugar refinery, Salt, Metal and Iron refineries.

List Of Refineries In Nigeria

The country has four refineries in total currently. We have one in the Southern part of the country, that is in Warri while another is located in Kaduna. The remaining three Nigerian refineries are located in Rivers and Port-Harcourt. All of these refineries are subsidiaries to NNPC ( Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation).

List Of Refineries In Nigeria

1. Warri Refinery

This Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company is built to produce atleast 125,000 barrels per stream day of local crude. There are some facilities available in the Warri Refining and Petrochemical towards the operating and functioning of this facility, nitrogen plants, turbines and steam turbo generators, water treatment plant, compressed air systems and refinery, and petrochemical effluent water treatment plants. The WRPC is located at Refinery road, Ekpan, Warri, Delta State. You should also know that the Petrochemical Company was incorporated as a limited liability company on the 3rd of November 1988.

2. Kaduna Refinery

The Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company was systematically built to cater to the ever growing Northern markets. Its area of 289 square kilometres was designed with safety, ease of maintenance, and also a reduction of operating costs in mind. The contract for constructing this refinery was handed to Chiyoda Chemical Engineering and Construction Company of Yokohama, Japan and that was in 1977. The Fuel Plant was commissioned in 1980 upon completion, the Lubes Plant and the Petrochemical Plant were commissioned in 1983 and 1986 respectively. In this refinery, Crude oil is redefined into high quality petroleum products and the manufacturing of petrochemical and packaging products to the satisfaction of her customers.

3. Dangote Refinery

This refinery is currently sitting on 2635 and is projected to produce 650,000 barrels per stream day upon completion which makes it Africa’s largest oil refinery. This refinery remains the largest refinery in the country currently. This refinery is owned by the wealthy billionaire Aliko Dangote. The Dangote refinery would be capable of processing local crude of Nigeria as well as other crudes and with a 1100 kilometres pipeline infrastructure capable of handling 3 billion standard cubic foot of gas per day.

4. Port-Harcourt Refinery Company

This refinery is located at Alesa Eleme near Port Harcourt. It was established in 1965 and has the capacity of producing 60,000 barrels of petroleum per day. Port-Harcourt Refinery Company produces the following products; Liquefied Petroleum Gas, Premium Motor Spirit, Kerosene (aviation and domestic), Automotive Gas Oil and it also produces Unleaded Gasoline that meets international standard.
