Problems Hindering Tourism In Nigeria
1. LANGUAGE BARRIER
One of the biggest problems that have hindered tourism in Nigeria for a long time is language barrier. This particular problem is most significant with foreign tourists in Nigeria. Nigeria has so many tribes in Nigeria and there is no general Nigerian language. Many tourist find it difficult in communicating with the people in the area they which to tour.
For example, a person that even understands Yoruba may go to a particular part of the country like the North and find out that they even speak other native languages there and not Hausa.
2. OVER POPULATION
Another hindrance to tourism in Nigeria that has occurred over the years in the problem of over population. We know quite well that Nigeria is the most populous countries in Africa. Many places are currently over populated in the country and they do not even seem to be conducive for the tourist because it kind of deprives them from doing their jobs very well.
For example, imagine a tourist going to some of the beaches we have in Nigeria. It might be very difficult for the tourist as he or she may find out that it is over populated on daily basis.

3. TERRORISM
Another hindrance to tourism in Nigeria that has occurred over the years in the problem of terrorism. In Nigeria today, we have experienced different types of terrorism while the most recent that has downgraded the country badly is the issue of boko haram. The Northern part of Nigeria has been the most affected parts of all the geographical zones that we have in Nigeria. No tourist would obviously want to go to a place that is not secure at all. For instance, even if a person is in the western part of Nigeria, such a person would not want to go for a tour around the northern part.
Again, it should be noted that no foreign tourist would be attracted to a place or a country that is very insecure.
4. FOOD RESTRICTION
Another hindrance to tourism in Nigeria that has occurred over the years in the problem of food restriction. This particular problem has really hindered tourism in Nigeria in the sense that foreign tourist might not be able to eat a typical Nigerian food. When I say a typical Nigerian food, I do not mean rice and beans. I mean the normal cassava we eat with soup. It might be quite difficult for such a tourist to blend.
5. LACK OF ELECTRICITY AND BAD ROADS
Another hindrance to tourism in Nigeria that has occurred over the years in the problem of lack of electricity and bad roads. We all know that Nigeria has dealt with the issue of bad roads for quite a very long time. The bad roads do not make it easy for tourist to travel by road form one part of Nigeria to another. Not only would it cause a lot of stress on the tourist but it would also expose the tourist to accident as we now that bad roads can lead to accidents.
We also need to address the issue of electricity. Nigeria has battled with electricity problem for as long as we can remember. We do not have a stable power supply in Nigeria which is quite a total turnoff as it would not even be convenient for foreign tourists to live in that kind of condition.
