Types Of Crude Oil In Nigeria

1. Qua-iboe Light

First on our list is the Qua-iboe Light. This is a different blend that contains very low levels of sulphur, metals and other materials. This type of Crude oil is produced from different oil fields located offshore in the southeastern part of the Nation. From the offshore, this crude oil is brought to shore through a seabed pipeline to the Qua-iboe Terminal. Now because of the high quality of this Crude Oil, there is numerous demand of this particular Crude Oil and this is because the products that would be gotten after the refining process of Qua-iboe crude would also have low-sulphur content. Currently, the average production rate is approximately 320kbd. ExxonMobil operates these fields and holds a 40% interest, while NNPC holds the remaining 60%.

2. Escravos Light

This is a light and sweet oil, this oil is produced off the coast of the Niger Delta in the southern part of Nigeria. It is the US Oil giant Chevron that operates the Escravos Terminal and produces 200,000 barrels of oil and condensates per day.

3. Bonny Medium

Next on our list is the Bonny Medium. This is a medium light sweet crude with an API Gravity of 25.2, and a low sulphur content of 0.23% and also a pour point of -27 degrees Celsius. There is another important specification of Bonny Medium which is its Kinematic Viscosity of 12mm. The low levels of sulphur, metal, and asphalt materials make it possible for products derived from refinement to be low in sulphur, also.

4. Ima

Next on our list is Ima. The Ima Crude Oil was discovered in the early 1970’s by Japan Petroleum in Port Harcourt, although exploitation didn’t start from there until 1994 after AMNI International Petroleum Development had acquired the license in 1993.This Crude Oil is produced from OML112 (OPL469), a shallow water oil field.

5. Ukpokiti

Most of  Nigeria’s revenue is derived from this oil industry. It is produced from OML108 off the coast of Delta in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria. The Ukpokiti blend is produced from the Shebah Exploration & Production Company, however production has been in decline over the recent years.

6. Antan Blend

This is another type of Crude oil, it is a high-value, low sulphur content, light crude oil produced from OML123 offshore, and the OML114 oilfields. Because of the valuable qualities of the Antan Blend make it highly desirable for export to big buyers like Canada, Togo, Spain, Argentina, South Africa, India, and the Netherlands.

7. River Blend

River Blend type of Crude Oil is a high quality crude oil containing very low sulphur, and also low levels of metals and aliphatic materials, making the Brass Blend highly valuable because when refined, the products derived from this crude will also have low sulphur content.

8. Forcados Blend

Forcados Blend is a unique blend of Crude Oil produced in Nigeria. Now the production output of this type of Crude Oil is around 200,000 barrels per day and with API Gravity of 29.7 and low sulphur content of 0.29%, this Crude Oil blend is very valuable globally.

9. Pennington Blend

Another type of Crude Oil is Pennington Blend. It is a medium light sweet Crude Oil produced off the coast of Bayelsa in the southern region of Nigeria. Pennington blend has a low sulphur content of 0.11% and API of 33.7 which makes it a very valuable Crude because more low-sulphur content products would be produced during the refining process.

10. Light Crude Oil

Bonny Light crude oil was first discovered in commercial quantity in Oloibiri, Bayelsa, in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria, in 1956. Bonnified is classified as light oil and is regarded as more valuable than other types of crude oil with lower API. The biggest buyers of this Crude Oil include India, the USA, Spain, the Netherlands, Canada, France, Argentina, Uruguay, Argentina and Cote D’Ivoire.
