About Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK)
The Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) is an internationally-recognized Nigerian university, and is located in Awka, Anambra State. The university has remained one of the most competitive in the country in terms of admissions.
Nnamdi Azikiwe University has been official accredited and/or recognized by the National Universities Commission (NUC), Nigeria.
Origin/History Of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK)
Nnamdi Azikiwe University appeared as a branch of the outdated Anambra State University of Technology (ASUTECH). ASUTECH which was built up through Law No. 7 of 30 July 1980 by the Government of the old Anambra worked as a multi-grounds college, with grounds in Abakiliki, Enugu, Awka and Nnewi. In 1991, after the split of the old Anambra State into Anambra and Enugu States, the Awka and Nnewi grounds of the previous ASUTECH were established into Nnamdi Azikiwe University by the Anambra State Edict No.5 26 November 1991.
Nnamdi Azikiwe University was taken over by the Federal Government by Decree No. 34 on 15 July 1992. In 1991, after the previous Anambra State was part into Anambra and Enugu States, the Awka and Nnewi grounds of the previous Anambra State University of Technology (ASUTECH) were joined into Nnamdi Azikiwe University, which was later taken over by Federal government.
The University is named after Nnamdi Azikiwe, the principal leader of Nigeria. The Awka Campus became Nnamdi Azikiwe University. In 1992, the Federal Government of Nigeria assumed control over the University from Anambra State. Nnamdi Azikiwe University, accordingly, turned into a Federal University.
