About Nigerian Police Academy

The Nigerian Police Academy was established in 1988 at the Police Training School Challawa, Kano, and Police College, Kaduna, both transient campuses which were merged and later relocated to a permanent base in Wudil, Kano on April 2, 1996. Presently there are several Police Academies in Nigeria with the objectives centering on the provision of institutions with the capacity to competently train qualitative manpower of the Nigerian Police Force and the equipping of trainees with solid academic and military exercises to produce law enforcement officers that are capable of effective discharge of dynamic police duties in the society.

How long is police academy training in Nigeria? Cadet inspector and ASP programs run for 18 months (72 weeks), a period that is subdivided into three six-month learning stages: basic, intermediate, and advanced.

  • POLICE COLLEGE, IKEJA, LAGOS STATE

Located at 26 Oba Akinjobi Way, GRA, Ikeja, Lagos State, this training facility was established as the principal police training college of the Nigeria Police Force. It is also regarded as a formation of Force Headquarters. The functions of the Police College, Ikeja, are as follows; the training of recruitment constables for service that ordinarily resides in one of the Southern Nigerian States, the training of all direct entry superior police officers and cadet sub-inspectors, the advanced training of superior police officers and inspectors and the holding of promotional courses for inspectors and senior non-commissioned officers. The training of police drivers, police signal and police telephone operators as well as the training of other students from other police forces, are other functions of the Police College, Ikeja, Lagos State.

  • POLICE COLLEGE, OJI RIVER, ENUGU STATE

The Police College, Oji River caters for the training of recruits for service who are ordinarily resident in any of these states; Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo states.

  • POLICE TRAINING COLLEGE, CALABAR, CROSS RIVER STATE

This Police Training College is responsible for the training of police recruits that are resident in either Akwa Ibom or Cross River State.

The Police College Kaduna was established to cater for the training of recruit constables enlisted for service who reside in the Northern parts of the country, and the holding of promotional courses for non-commissioned officers and constables of the Northern states.
