LAGOS MAINLAND
Lagos is broadly divided into two parts, Lagos Mainland and Lagos Island divided by the waters of the Lagos Lagoon and connected by the 3rd Mainland Bridge. Lagos Mainland generally refers to the areas of Ikeja, Surulere, Ebute Metta, Oshodi, Agege, Yaba, Ejigbo, Ilupeju, and the surrounding suburbs around these major towns.
For a place to stay on Lagos Mainland for 5 days we recommend a 3-star Hotel in the Ikeja area of Alausa, Opebi, Allen or Awolowo Road. Ikeja GRA or Mobolaji Bank Anthony are also great and central enough to move around and visit the places of interest on the Mainland.

Must see places on the Mainland includes The African Shrine for the live Afrobeat Music, sultry dancers and the raw atmosphere of a Lagos crowd in its element when music, alcohol and the carefree spirit of the young and youthful in Lagos are in full force. Closely related to the African Shrine is also the Kalakuta Museum which has the relics and memorabilia of the legend that is Fela Anikulapo Kuti and the history of Afrobeat over the years.
Day 1.
Check in to your Hotel, preferably De Rembrandt Hotel in Ikeja, close to the Ikeja City Mall. It is centrally located and in close proximity to most of the places you’ll be visiting dring your 5 Day stay on the Lagos Mainland. Visit the Ikeja City Mall and shop for essentials you might need. See a movie at the cinema and water down at any of the several bars in the mall. Our recommendation is Rhapsody’s.
Day 2.
Visit the Kalakuta Museum on 7, Gbemisola Street, Off Allen Avenue. Recommended place to get something to eat is Jevenik Restaurant in GRA, Ikeja. Visit Computer Village and the makeshift evening market at Ikeja Along, you will find some of the best street food of fried yam, potatoes, chicken, turkey and gizzard. Return back to the hotel and have a swim.
Day 3.
Visit the Yaba/Tejuosho Market. Lots of interesting things to buy especially fabrics. Visit the National Stadium nearby, if you are kitted you can join in a game of tennis, volleyball or football or participate in calisthenics. Surulere is famous for its bars and restaurants, whatever you feel like, drinks or food you will not be in a short supply on where to have either. The Place for Continental dishes; Burgers and Shakes for pastries and confectionery, smoothies and mocktails; and Olaiya Food Canteen for local Nigerian meals are some of the places to get food.
Day 4.
Night time on the mainland is a different world of it’s own. Today you can spend most of the day relaxing in the hotel. For lunch you should check out the Orchid Bistro restaurant at GRA Ikeja. Visit the Ouida Bookshop nearby to purchase new titles and update your reading list.
One of the things to love about this place is how the bookshelves make the perfect backdrop for a great headshot. When night falls, some of the places to visit include the red light district of Allen Avenue, the food court opposite the Ikeja Airport Hotel as well as the African Shrine where your evening should end.
The music is captivating, and the atmosphere electric. We suggest you don’t leave anytime before midnight. And if you are hungry, the food court opposite Airport Hotel Ikeja serves meals all night long.
Day 5
We expect that you will wake up nursing a hangover and will probably have to order breakfast in and sleep off a bit again, to wake up and pack before checking out. But by the end of it all, your 5 days stay on Lagos Mainland would have been a memorable and eventful one.

BADAGRY
Badagry is a border town between Lagos and Benin Republic and is famed for its salve trade era music, relics and history. Flung far away from mainland Lagos whose beehive of activities are the mainstay of the city, Badagry in contrast is idyllic and quiet, the most action it sees are that of immigration and custom agents patrolling its highway, on the lookout for smugglers bringing in contraband products from the port in Benin republic.
The quiet town, traditionally governed by the Akran of Badagry, is a must see for everyone looking to take a peek into the sordid past of slave trade in Nigeria. If leisure and history is your thing, Badagry has a good mix of both to fill your 5 days stay full of activities that will not only be memorable but leave your camera roll with a great deal of pictures for a proper show and tell.
There are several tour guides in Badagry who are descendants of former slaves returned to Nigeria or former slave owners who are available to take you on a tour of the relics of slavery in Badagry Town.
A visit to the Seriki Abass Slave Museum or the Mobee Royal Family Slave Relics Museum will provide you with one of such tour guides.

Day 1

Lufasi Nature Park, Lagos
