About Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO)
The Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO) is an internationally-recognized Nigerian university, and is located in Owerri, Imo State. The university has remained one of the most competitive in the country in terms of admissions.

Origin/History Of Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO)
The Federal University of Owerri is the Oldest University of Technology in Nigeria and was built up in 1980 by Executive fiat with the sythesis and arrangement of the principal temporary Council by Nigeria’s First Executive President, Shehu Shagari. It turned into the first of three such Universities set up by the Federal Government of Nigeria who looked to build up a University of Technology in each geo-political area and especially in a State which didn’t have a regular University.
FUTO started with 225 students and 60 staffs (28 Teaching and 32 non-Teaching). Like other government universities in Nigeria, FUTO is going by a Chancellor who is typically an Royal father , and followed by a Vice Chancellor who manages the every day exercises of the university.
